If you’ve been thinking of ordering up a new Korean luxury sedan but didn’t know how much it’d set you back, you can stop wondering because Genesis has announced pricing for the new G80.
Hyundai’s new luxury sedan will start at $41,400. That’s for the base model, of course, with the 3.8-liter V6 and rear-wheel drive. Step up to the all-wheel-drive version and you’ll be paying an extra $2,500 for a total of $43,900.
But if you want the big 5.0-liter V8, you’re going to have to put away an extra chunk of change, because that model, available only in rear-drive form, starts at $54,550 – plus the $950 destination charge that applies to all models.
Now separated under its own brand, the 2017 Genesis G80 is a bit more expensive than the nearly identical 2016 Hyundai Genesis, which started at $38,750. It still represents a heck of a bargain against rivals from more established luxury automakers, though.
The Genesis G80 goes after the mid-luxury segment populated by the likes of the Acura RLX, Infiniti Q70, Lexus GS 350, Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, Jaguar XF, and Cadillac CTS.
Specify any of those with a comparable six-cylinder engine and you’ll be looking at upwards of $50,000 – at which point you could get the eight-cylinder version of the Genesis. While several of those aforementioned rivals are also available with smaller turbo fours, even their prices are higher than the base six-cylinder G80.
