Honda is apparently set to lift the veil on the latest-generation Civic Type R in concept guise at September’s Paris Motor Show.
The current model was only released last year but because it launched so late in the 9th-gen Civic’s production run, Honda has wasted no time in testing and developing the range-topping variant for the 10th-generation Civic.
After the concept’s Paris debut, it is reported that the completed car will hit showroom floors in September 2017.
Auto Express reports that the new model will adopt a more restrained look than the current model, in an effort to broaden its appeal. This means that no crazy rear wing will be installed while more subtle front and rear bumpers will also come standard.
Although numerous prototypes have been snapped with bold aerodynamic elements, the publication suggests that these components won’t come standard and could instead be offered as optional extras.
As for power, it will continue to come from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine but rather than 306 hp, could pump out 340 hp. Torque is also expected to jump from 400 Nm to 450 Nm, helping to slash the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time to the five second mark. Front-wheel drive will be retained as will a six-speed manual transmission. If Honda so desires, a new FWD Nurburgring lap record should be achievable.
