Ford’s next-generation Fiesta is set to benefit from a push up-market thanks to a revised design and an improved interior.
Autocar says that the new Fiesta, set to arrive at the end of the year, will continue to be based around the America firm’s staple Global B platform. As a result, the new model is expected to retain the same overall size and wheelbase as the outgoing Fiesta but could benefit from a slightly wider track.
As with the outgoing model, the new Fiesta will be offered in both three-door and five-door variants, despite numerous manufacturers, including the Volkswagen Group, phasing out many of its three-door superminis. A nearly identical chassis setup is also likely to underpin the latest Fiesta but tweaks will be made to the suspension at all four corners.
From the outside, the new model will be easy to spot from the current car. For starters, the front-end is expected to be slightly wider and will benefit from a sleeker looking and slightly wider blacked-out front grille. Additionally, thinner headlights and foglights will be featured. At the rear, the existing Fiesta’s eye-brow raising triangular taillights will be replaced by something more conservative and horizontal.
Inside, Ford is apparently looking to improve the quality of all panels in a hope to rival the fit and finish offered by Volkswagen. To do so, the dashboard and center console will be simplified and less cluttered.
