A Saudi Prince has just been announced as the buyer of the Bugatti Chiron show car from Geneva and most notably, the one-off Vision Gran Turismo Concept car unveiled last year.
Prince Badr bin Saud is said to be worth upwards of $21 billion so obviously had the money to purchase these unique creations. Bugatti confirmed that Saud submitted “the most convincing bid” to buy the pair, inevitably a figure well in excess of $5 million.
We know that both the Chiron show car from this year’s Geneva Motor Show and the Vision Gran Turismo concept car from Frankfurt 2015 run and are installed with the firm’s staple quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine. Beyond that however, their performance capabilities are unknown.
Development of the Chiron is continuing so inevitably, Saud’s Chiron isn’t a production-ready example and is unlikely to be used as anything more than a design piece. As pieces of French art go, it is up there with the very best however.
The extent of Saud’s car collection isn’t known but we’d expect these two to be joining dozens of other exclusively and valuable automobiles.
Just yesterday, it was confirmed that the Chiron and Vision Gran Turismo concept will be displayed together for the first time at next month’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It isn’t yet known if Saud’s Chiron will be the example displayed or if Bugatti will instead roll-out another one of its prototypes.
