Born out of the iconic Group B rally era, the Ferrari 288 GTO is a car unlike no other and later this month, one particularly stunning example will be sold by Mecum Auctions.
Anticipated to sell for between $2 million and $3 million, the car is one of just 272 units ever produced, making the car significantly rarer than any other Ferrari ‘halo hypercar‘.
This unit is a rare U.S.-spec model and was originally delivered in 1985 to Ferrari dealership, Al Garthwaite. Four years later, it changed hands to a collector in Seattle and then in 2001, was purchased by Ron and Betty Profili.
The couple displayed the model at multiple Concours events and in 2001 alone, took Platinum class honors at Florida’s Cavallino Classic, Concorso Italiano in California and even Lake Como’s famous Concorso d’Eleganza.
The car has been so well maintained that it has never needed to be restored and remains Ferrari Classiche Certified.
