Just a couple days after it was revealed that Volkswagen would halt production of the Golf due to a supplier dispute, it’s emerged that production will be paused in October and December due to an oversupply of vehicles.
Automotive News says that production of the Golf will stop from October 4-7 and December 19-22 because despite the factory’s summer shutdown in July, workers managed to maintain production levels and build more Golfs than original anticipated.
Despite this, the company insists that it won’t build fewer Golfs this year than originally planned and that overall, production will remain stable.
This is in contrary to a report from German publication Bild which claimed VW could build 15,000 fewer Golfs in 2016 than originally planned.
This week, Golf production will stop for five days in Wolfsburg, potentially costing the firm about 40 million euros ($45 million) because of the supplier dispute. When combined with the impending stoppages in October and December, costs could increase further.
