Volkswagen has emailed approximately 70,000 employees to inform them that chasing…Pokemons during working hours is strictly prohibited.
Safety aside, VW officials are more worried that their secrets could be exposed, according to German daily Bild, as the extremely popular Pokemon Go app, which is estimated to have been downloaded by 100 million people worldwide, uses cameras, geolocation and data sharing.
Volkswagen’s guidelines clearly forbid employees to install the app on their work phones and, since many players use the screenshot feature to share findings with their friends and family, their smartphone cameras are covered, if they have access to key areas, so nobody will “catch them all” if the new Passat CC or Golf 8 are anywhere in sight.
The action has not scared Pokemon Go players who make a living by working for Volkswagen, as they will continue to chase the virtual cartoons in their spare time. Some of the employees said that paying attention to their smartphones has not affected the quality of their work and they’re okaywith the automaker’s decision, especially since only common characters have been found on factory grounds.
