AC Cars has announced that it will build nine AC Cobras as part of a so-called ‘legacy’ series.
Similar to what Jaguar Land Rover has done with its continuation models, these nine Cobras will be built to the exact same specification as the original car from 1962. That means they will be hand crafted from aluminum using the original tooling that helped create the original Cobra some 54 years ago.
Beyond featuring identical bodies, the cars, set to be dubbed the AC Cobra Mk1 260 Legacy Edition, will all be left-hand drive and include transverse-leaf independent front suspension as well as a live rear axle, just like the original. Additionally, 260-cubic-inch Ford-sourced V8 engines will power all nine examples.
Autocar reports that the cars will only be available in the original shades of blue and yellow.
Construction will be handled by AC Heritage in the UK with AC historian Steve Gray at the helm and should commence by the end of this year.
Priced from 500,000 pounds ($670,000) each, the first deliveries are expected to take place in mid-2017.
