This is the best look yet at the Bavarian automaker’s next-generation 5-Series Touring and thanks to the rather light camo, we can finally get a close look at its muscular bonnet, rear spoiler and a few bodywork panels.

The front bumper remains well-hidden, as does the rear-most window and the front fender air outlets – though you can still kind of see them if you look close enough despite the vinyl.

According to some rumors, there is a slight chance BMW could bring the new 5-Series Touring to next month’s Paris Auto Show. Unless they decide to launch it simultaneously with the Sedan, though, this is highly unlikely. The most likely scenario, if they decide to follow the paradigm of the F10/F11/F07 generation, is rolling out the new 5-Series GT first. That will be followed by the Sedan, probably next January in Detroit, and then the Touring sometime next year.

The all-new 5er will be built on the same modular platform as the 7-Series, which will enable it to shred up to 100kg (220 pounds) over the current car thanks to the use of lightweight materials such as carbonfibre reinforced plastics (CFRP).

The engine range will mirror that of the saloon and consist of 2.0-liter B47 diesel and B48 gasoline four-cylinders, the 3.0-liter B57 diesel and B58 gasoline straight-six turbo units, as well as an upgraded 4.4-liter petrol V8. The PHEV version will be powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain already fitted to the 330e, 740e and X5 xDrive40e, while the M550d performance diesel could get electrically driven turbochargers.
