The BMW Group announced that it has delivered 165,431 vehicles to customers around the world in August, an increase of 5.7 percent on the same month last year,
Of those, 142,554 are from the BMW brand, pulled by the X range of SUVs, where sales of the X1 doubled year-on-year, deliveries of the X3 and X4 increased by 29.7 percent and 10.6 percent respectively, and the X5 was up 9.9 percent with a total of 12,321 units.
Sales of the BMW 7-Series flagship more than tripled compared with the same month last year and stand at 5,000 units, while the BMW i and BMW iPerformance vehicles deliveries are already higher than the 2015 total, with 34,664 sold so far this year. In August alone, 2,848 units of the i3 were delivered to customers across the globe, up 73.2 percent.
Europe has turned out to be the BMW Group’s largest market in August, when BMW and MINI totaled 62,653 units, up 6.3 percent, while the year-to-date sales in the region are up by 10.1 percent with 685,328. Contributing to the strong growth were Italy, with 51,444 units, Spain, with 35,634, and Scandinavia, with 34,370.
In Asia, BMW and MINI delivered 59,047 vehicles to customers in August, up 13.8 percent, while in the first eight months of the year, the two brands sold 476,777 vehicles. China remains the most important player in the region, accounting for 329,972 vehicles this year, while strong growth was shown in Japan and South Korea, with 46,713 and 39,392 units, respectively.
In the Americas, sales of the BMW and MINI brands decreased 4.4 percent in August, with 38,200 vehicles delivered, out of which 30,500 were in the USA, down by 7.2 percent, 3,575 in Canada, up 8.0 percent, and 2,976 in Mexico, up 25.5 percent. Year-to-date, sales in the region dropped by 7.0 percent and total 298,821.
BMW Motorrad reported sales up by 5.7 percent in August, with 9,238 units delivered, while year-to-date, the brand’s bike division’s sales rose by 2.5 percent, with a total of 103,829 motorcycles and maxi-scooters delivered.
