BMW wants to complement its SUV lineup with a sixth model, and the concept previewing the new sports crossover will be unveiled at the Paris Auto Show on Thursday.
We’re talking about the one announcing the X2 – a model that’s been caught testing as early as last year – which BMW teased through an image vaguely showing the vehicle’s front fascia.
Through the wraps, the X2 Concept appears to sport slimmer headlights, making it more distinguishable from the X1. As with other BMW studies of the sort, it’s believed to be very close to the production model that will follow next year.
The X2 will be a more dynamic, sportier version of the X1, so expect it to sport a lowered roofline, and a raked windscreen, with spy shots confirming that it won’t have the same slanted roof as the X4 that offers a fastback styling. You can check out our own speculative rendering of the X2 here.
The production car will be based on the same UKL platform as the new MINIs and BMW’s own X1, which translates into a front-wheel drive layout as standard, with optional all-wheel-drive.What will power the concept is irrelevant, but the production variant will most likely adopt the range of engines already available on BMW’s entry-level crossover.
We will have a clearer picture of the X2 once the concept will be unveiled at the Mondial de l’Automobile 2016.
