Affalterbach engineers have once again been spied testing out the brand new AMG GT R at the “old” Nurburgring track in Germany.
Despite being dubbed ‘The Beast of Green Hell‘ by the manufacturer, the most hardcore of road-legal AMGs hasn’t actually posted an official time at the circuit yet. This leads us to believe that Mercedes mightbe fine-tuning the vehicle before it does indeed set out to complete a blisteringly quick lap.
In the GT R, the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 delivers 577 hp, 65 hp more than the GT S. That results in a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of just 3.6 seconds and a 198 mph (318 km/h) top speed.
The fastest verified time around the Nurburgring achieved by the slightly less powerful AMG GT S is a 7 minute and 35 second lap, some three seconds faster than the Lexus LFA. With the added power of the GT R and its host of aerodynamic changes and advanced traction control system, a time in the low 7:20s, or even faster, seems plausible.
