Subaru does its darnedest to convince us that one model isn’t related to the next. So the Outback is marketed as a completely separate model from the Legacy on which it’s based. Ditto the Crosstrek that’s based on the Impreza.
But the folks at Fuji will forgive us enthusiasts if, following the release of a new Impreza, we get at least a little excited at the prospect of a hot WRX.
Though development and marketing of the WRX and its hardcore version the WRX STI have been separated from those of the Impreza, rendering artist Theo Chin cooked up his vision of what the top version of the latest Impreza would look like – much as X-Tomi had done a few months ago.
And it looks pretty hot, especially in this bright shade of red. Present and accounted for are the air scoop on the hood, more aggressive front bumper, side sills, rear diffuser, rear lip spoiler, and lightweight alloys. But even if Subaru were to transform the new Impreza directly into an STI, it would also need more pronounced wheel arches and a much bigger rear wing.
