Hyundai’s new baby SUV was spotted running around on German public roads in prototype form.
The new sub-compact SUV is planned to make its debut in 2017, aiming straight at the likes of the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and Opel Mokka X / Chevrolet Trax.
The Korean model will draw inspiration from the funky 2014 Intrado concept, retaining though a relationship with the brand’s latest models, including the i30 and the Tucson.
With that said, the heavily camouflaged prototype you see here looks like it’s going to adopt a face of its own, with the headlights positioned low, right next to the firm’s hexagonal grille – somewhat reminiscent of the Jeep Cherokee and Citroen C4 Picasso. The rear end on the other hand appears to be much simpler, opting for a set of taillights similar to those of the Tucson.
However, the new crossover will be considered part of the i20’s range, using a mix of i20 and the new i30 parts in its construction. This means that the engine range will include the latest generation of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder petrol units seen on the aforementioned models, including the 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre ones, as well as all the necessary connectivity features to satisfy customer’s demands.
There is a slim chance that Hyundai will also make some versions available with AWD but even without this option, the new Korean crossover should have its opponents worried, starting from now.
