There was a time when Mercedes was brave enough to create a full-blooded AMG version of a minivan. The result was deemed as a commercial flop for the German company but the R63 AMG was far, far away from being labelled as a bad car.

Fewer than 200 units were sold on a global scale, making the R63 AMG one of the rarest modern AMGs out there and easily the most practical one.

The cabin can fit six passengers in a luxurious and well-made environment, with the third row of seats able to fold flat. Under the bonnet lies the naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 with 507hp, sent via a seven-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels. 0-60mph was dealt in 4.6 seconds, with the top speed limited to 155mph. In a minivan.

So you can excuse us for our enthusiasm when we came across on one example being currently auctioned over at Bring A Trailer. These cars don’t come up often for sale, especially in such a good condition.

Having covered 78k miles, this one-owner R63 AMG comes with a full service history, with all electrics, lighting and instrumentation reportedly working as they should. The black leather upholstery shows minimal signs of usage while the carpets are described to be in excellent condition.

It’s not that hard to realize that the Mercedes R63 AMG offers a lot of talents in a single package and the fact that there are not that many out there, makes it one of the coolest vehicles in existence right now. At the time of writing, the highest bid is $13k, with one week left for the auction to end.
