The new Renault Megane Sedan (also offered under the Grand Coupe nameplate in certain countries) is the latest addition to the model’s family, targeted to those markets where compact saloons are still a popular choice.
Renault says that the new four-door version of the Megane is blurring the lines between a sedan and a four-door coupe, with the rear end of the car blending nicely with the familiar face of the French compact model. The good proportions of the Megane Sedan are accompanied by generous dimensions (4.63m long and 1.81m wide), while the wheelbase is a class-leading 2.71m. Also class-leading are the front and rear tracks, measuring 1.57m long. The boot capacity is set at 550lt, while rear passengers have 37mm more knee room than the five-door version.
Inside, the dashboard is exactly the same as the one in the five-door Megane model, highlighted by the optional 8.7-inch portrait-oriented R-Link 2 infotainment system. The company says they used the same soft-touch materials found in their higher-end models, with the instrument, air-vent and center console surrounds finished in a satin-effect trim.
Depending on the market, the new Megane Sedan will be offered with a wide range of driving aids, including adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking system, lane departure warning, safe distance warning and more.
The engine range includes two petrol and three diesel units: a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre SCe 115 petrol, a turbocharged 1.2-litre TCe 130 petrol and the dCi 90, dCi 110 and dCi 130 diesel units. The base petrol model can be equipped with the optional CVT transmission, while the TCe models can get a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The dCi 110 can get the six-speed dual-clutch transmission as an option.
The new Renault Megane Sedan will be built in the brand’s factory at Turkey, joining the Clio and the Clio Estate which are also produced there. Renault will offer their new model in nearly 30 countries, including Australia, Bahrein, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Turkey, Ukraine and United Arab Emirates.
