Due to poor sales, Subaru has killed off the XV Crosstrek Hybrid for the 2017 model year.
2016-badged XV Crosstrek Hybrid models commanded a $4,800 premium over the standard XV Crosstek, bringing the price to $27,245 including destination and handling, making it a very tough sale in an extremely competitive segment.
While Cars Direct reports that the decision was made because of poor sales, it isn’t known just how many units have been delivered in recent years. Clearly though, customers didn’t think the hybrid powertrain was worth the significant premium.
The compact-sized crossover came with a 2.0-liter flat-four engine delivering 148 hp paired to a 13.4 hp electric motor found within the casing of the bespoke CVT transmission. This combination resulted in a combined fuel efficiency figure of 31 mpg or 7.6l/100 km.
While customers will no longer have the option of a hybrid, plenty of XV Crosstrek variants are available for 2017, starting from $21,696 for the entry-level 2.0i variant and stretching out to $25,195 for the 2.0i Limited PZEV.
