Buyers looking for a more upmarket version of the new 3008 SUV could be tempted by the dynamics of a possible hot GTi variant.
Peugeot 3008 project manager Marion David went on record with Auto Express, saying that “GT is the fastest version for now, but if it does very well, then we will look at a higher-level version. People are moving down from more expensive cars and they still want the good performance.”
Since the 3008 utilizes the EMP2 platform that also underpins the 308, Peugeot could bring in some chassis and powertrain components from the 308 GTi hot hatch to be used in the larger 3008 GTi. This could mean seeing the same 270 PS 1.6-liter turbo petrol unit, as well as a chassis tuned for better handling.
Another assumption is that with the ‘Coupe Franche’ livery already used on certain 3008 models, a hot version would possibly get the same treatment that’s previously been used on the 208 GTi and the 308 GTi – where the back of the car is painted differently than the front.
Finally, if Peugeot does go ahead with the 3008 GTi, it would also be joined by a hotter version of the 2008, as it has been previously reported.
