Although Audi recently trademarked the Q4 nameplate, the new SUV won’t make it into production until 2021 as the company is reevaluating its product plans in the aftermath of the diesel emissions scandal.
According to a company source quoted by Auto Motor und Sport, “we are behind in time planning with the next stage of vehicles to be based on the MQB architecture.”
Said plan includes the current A3’s replacement as well, as the current family compact will soldier on until the end of 2019 when the next-generation is due.
The launches have been pushed back as the German car maker’s engineers are currently concentrating on fixing the damage caused by the rigged diesel units. Moreover, this report comes after the automaker officially announced its retirement from endurance racing, proving once again that the backwash of the misconduct hit both the VW Group and Audi hard.
Audi is reportedly concentrating on launching the Q6 e-tron by 2018, as part of its plan to allocate all its financial and engineering resources in bringing alternative fuel-powered cars to the market as soon as possible.
When contacted by Automotive News, Audi declined to either confirm or deny the reports: “We do not comment on speculation about future models and their launch dates.”
