Jeep’s new age Grand Wagoneer will receive some kind of hybrid powertrain option when it hits the market in 2018.
According to Car&Driver, Jeep brand chief Mike Manley recently said that given the Grand Wagoneer’s anticipated launch date, electrification will be “required” to help it adequately compete with its rivals. In all probability, the hybrid option will be a plug-in and see a petrol-powered engine mated to an electric motor.
Earlier in the year, it was confirmed that the new Jeep Wrangler will eventually be offered with a hybrid powertrain arriving early next decade. It is therefore reasonable to assume that the Grand Wagoneer’s hybrid option will trickle down in some form to the Wrangler. Further down the road, the Ram 1500 pickup will also get a hybrid option.
Elsewhere on a powertrain front, the Grand Wagoneer will likely get Chrysler’s HEMI V8 as well.
When combined with a distinctive design and luxurious interior, the 2019 Jeep Grand Wagoneer could cost up to $140,000 in the U.S.
