Bridging the gap between road car and race car, the Vantage GT12 is arguably the ultimate version of Aston Martin’s “baby” model to date. But with only 100 examples made, you can’t buy one new anymore. Fortunately you can still get one second-hand, and one dealer has two of them in stock.
Initially unveiled as the Vantage GT3 (until Porsche objected), the GT12 packs Aston’s ubiquitous 6.0-liter V12, tuned to deliver 565 horsepower and fitted into a compact form unburdened of 100 excess kilograms of weight and fitted with an aggressive aero kit to make it look and perform like its competition-spec counterpart.
There’s a handful of them currently available for purchase through Aston’s recently launched Timeless certified pre-owned program, including one in Switzerland and another near Goodwood. But the dealer in Cheltenham – just an hour away from the factory in Gaydon – has the two pictured here.
The 17th of the 100 made is done up in baby blue and orange – the colors of the Gulf livery – and has 850 miles on the odometer. The 37th is a bit more garish in its Lamborghini-inspired neon green, but has just 592 miles on the clock.
Each is listed for £439,950, which even at today’s post-Brexit exchange rates still comes out to more than half a million dollars. This in contrast to the £250,000 original asking price from the factory, which just goes to show that depreciation doesn’t apply when it comes to such sought-after exotic machinery.
