Ross Brawn has denied reports that he’s been hired by Liberty Media to run its sporting and commercial involvement in Formula 1.
While speaking with the BBC, the former Mercedes F1 boss said that at this stage, all he is doing is consultancy work for Liberty Media, helping to prepare it for its takeover due to be completed early next year.
“Liberty have not got far enough down the road to make any commitments yet. I’m doing a little consulting to help them better understand F1 but that’s all,” Brawn said.
The 61-year-old went on to say that his future within Formula 1 and Liberty Media depends on what current chief executive Bernie Ecclestone does. Currently, Ecclestone is responsible for both the commercial and sporting sides of the championship and claims he has been offered a three-year contract by Liberty.
Confirmation of Liberty Media’s takeover of Formula 1 came in early September. Initially, it has taken an 18.7 per cent stake in the sport in a $746 million cash deal. Next year, the North American media giant will acquire all remaining shares in Delta Topco, the parent company of Formula One. All up, the deal is valued at around $8 billion.
