Even though VW won’t be introducing a new generation of the CC until later next year, it has reportedly decided to kill the current model.

The reason being, poor sales, as an unnamed company source with knowledge on the matter told Autocar.  It is believed though that, VW has accrued enough stock to continue offering the car through its dealers.

As far as its replacement goes, it will be underpinned by the same architecture as the latest Passat, the MQB, which is being used on a wide range of vehicles made by the VW Group. This will open up the possibility of a wide petrol and diesel engine lineup, but it remains to be seen whether electrified powertrains will be introduced.

Designers have apparently looked at the Sport Coupe Concept GTE for inspiration when penning the new CC, which will maintain its sloping roofline. Inside, expect a four- and five-seat layout, depending on the version, along with the latest infotainment system and technologies.
