For the first time in its history, Subaru is producing the Impreza outside of Japan now at its factory in Indiana, alongside the Legacy and Outback.
Most Imprezas built at this facility will be sold throughout the United States and Canada and by March 2019, the plant will double its current production capacity, rising from 218,000 units up to 436,000.
As this short video shows, the Impreza is produced on the same production line as the Legacy and Outback, rather than at its own dedicated area. Although much of the construction process is handled by robots, Subaru technicians do play a part in bringing the hatchback to life, particularly in ensuring that each to leave the factory is up to standard.
The new Subaru Impreza is the company’s first model based around its new Global Platform, set to be used by most of its next-generation models. The only engine currently on offer in the U.S. is a 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder.
