Lately, there’s been talk of NASCAR’s glory days, when the rule book wasn’t so stringent, and the drivers weren’t overhyped media stars. If you want to recapture those moments, there’s Kenny Schrader’s 1989 NASCAR Chevrolet Lumina up for grabs.
Yup, the car that won the Budweiser 500 at Dover and finished 5th in the Banquet Frozen Foods 300 at Sears Point, is looking for a new owner. Built by Hendrick Motorsports, the Chevy was used by Kenny Schrader from 1989 through 1992, so it comes in its last livery (the white and green Kodiak paintwork) with a lot of old-school pedigree and a 715 horsepower V8 mated to a 4-speed manual.
Although the bodywork appears to be in good condition, the car still has some scars from its racing past, including a small area damaged by a tow rope. But that’s to be expected from a machine used in one of the most wearying forms of motorsport, as well as in various post-retirement vintage events.
Gene Felton restored the car to its original specs, at one point, but the previous owner installed bigger brakes, an MSD ignition module and an up-to-date safety and fuel system.
The car is offered for sale by Bring a Trailer, and, as of now, the bid stands at $5,100. This could be a good opportunity to get your hands on a NASCAR for cheap.
