Being its second best-selling model in the U.S. market, and the overall leader in its segment, makes the CR-V a very important model for Honda.

This is why for its fifth iteration it has pulled out all the stops, switching to a new platform that offers more passenger and cargo space and ushering in a novel 1.5-liter turbo four from the Civic that puts out 190 HP to the front or, optionally, all four wheels.

It has also redesigned the cabin, which now has a more premium feel than its predecessor. Then there’s all the latest tech, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as the Honda Safety suite with all sorts of driver assist systems.

The starting price has risen by a modest $200, to $24,925, but the majority of customers are expected to go for the more lavishly equipped EX or Touring.

We’ve already had a first drive in the 2017 CR-V and found that it has all it takes to maintain its status as the class benchmark, but, as it’s about to hit dealerships in a few weeks’ time, it’s interesting to see another take on Honda’s popular SUV.
