If you like to play the odds game, betting against a light-weight European prizefighter like the BMW M2 might be unwise, even when its rival is an American muscle car.

Of course, this latest generation of muscle cars has come a long way and the new Camaro SS certainly qualifies as an overachiever thanks to its Corvette-sourced 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine.

On paper, the 455 HP and 455 lb-ft (616 Nm) of torque can help it get from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4 seconds flat, which actually makes it quicker off the line than the BMW M2.

Speaking of which, the car some are calling BMW’s best M-vehicle of all time comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine, good for 365 HP and 343 lb-ft (465 Nm) of torque, thus sprinting to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds.

That being said, we will remind you that weight matters a lot, and that launching your car off the line perfectly is not something people manage to do each and every time they go racing.

Also, the guys from CanalTopSpeed also went with a rolling start after the initial stand-still drag race, just for good measure. The results are, interesting to say the least.
