Previewed by a concept and scooped out in the wild testing, the BMW X2 is reportedly one year away from launch.

The premium subcompact crossover, which is basically a sportier version of the latest X1, should be unveiled close to the end of 2017, AutoExpress writes, with deliveries set to begin in 2018.

The production BMW X2 will be available with a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, and it could even have a range-topping version developed by the M Division. The latter is expected to be named the M25i and use an upgraded version of the 2.0-liter petrol four.

Design-wise, the X2 is believed to remain pretty close to the study shown at the 2016 Paris Motor Show this year, but with details such as those huge air scoops and rear diffuser significantly toned down for production.
