We all knew it was coming and now it is official, the Dodge Challenger is available with all-wheel drive in the form of the 2017 Challenger GT AWD.
Power for the model comes courtesy of the familiar 3.5-liter Pentastar V6 delivering 305 hp and 268 lb-ft and mated exclusively to ZF’s eight-speed automatic transmission. The Challenger GT AWD then adopts the same transfer case and front-axle disconnect has the all-wheel drive Charger. Typically, all of the power whipped up by the V6 is sent to the rear wheels. Power only gets funnelled through the front when necessary.
From a styling perspective, the model is almost impossible to pick apart from the rear-wheel drive Challenger V6. As standard, it includes parts like 19-inch wheels with all-season performance tires, a subtle rear spoiler and fog lights.
In the cabin, customers will be welcomed with heated and ventilated front seats wrapped in Nappa leather, an 8.4-inch infotainment system and a heated steering wheel. An optional ‘GT Interior’ package is also available for $995 and adds more Nappa leather, alcantara, a performance-focused steering wheel and nine-speaker stereo.
Prices for the model start at $34,490 including the $1,095 destination charge, making it cheaper than alternatives such as the Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic Coupe, Infiniti Q60 and BMW 430i xDrive.
