Just before the all-Tesla Electric GT racing series commences, the organizers of the championship have announced a second series, dubbed V2.0, which will feature the Model S P100D.
While the regular Electric GT series will use the Model S P85+, the V2.0 series goes for the range-topping variant and will see each car receive a host of modifications to prepare it for on-track competition.
Among the upgrades will be a an aero pack with a large rear wing, racing brakes, adjustable suspension and Pirelli slick tires. Additionally, 500 kg (1,100 lbs) of weight will be stripped out compared to the road car.
The Electric GT series will kick off in 2017 and the first season will consist of seven races with 10 teams and 20 drivers competing. Each race weekend will include a 20 minute practice session, a 60 minute qualifying session, a 60 km day race and a 60 km dusk race. Among the circuits included in the inaugural season will be the Nurburgring, Estoril and Paul Ricard.
Discussing the V2.0 series, Electric GT championship chief executive Mark Gemmell said: “The Electric GT V2.0 design is the fastest way towards the ‘Age of Light’. I am very excited to be using the Tesla Model S P100D as it is incredibly quick and innovative. This week we opened the subscription period for teams and the new car announcement is an exciting prospect for those who want to join us.”
