Technology company Nvidia has been given a permit to test its self-driving technology on the roads of California.
Although Nvidia is best known for creating graphics cards for computers, the firm has ventured into the automotive world in recent times and developed an advanced autonomous driving system recently previewed testing in a controlled environment. The brand’s self-driving system, dubbed Drive PX2, will also be used in the Roborace series.
The Verge reports that Nvidia didn’t waste any time in testing out its technologies by hitting Californian streets almost immediately after being granted approval.
Back in September, Nvidia announced a partnership with Chinese web giant Baidu to further its development for semi-autonomous vehicles.
Although Michigan could become the hotbed for autonomous testing in the United States, no less than 20 companies have been issued with permits to test their systems in California. Among them are Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Google, Tesla, Bosch, Nissan, BMW, Honda, Ford, Faraday Future and NextEV.
