It’s hard to believe that prices for the limited-edition Porsche 911 R started at $184,900 in the United States because immediately after the car’s release, prices skyrocketed.
As Porsche enthusiasts and collectors realized that this could be the final manual 911 produced by Porsche’s GT division, demand for the model soared even before customer deliveries began, eventually topping out at over $1 million.
However, as is so often the case for cars like these, prices have since dropped and settled to around the $600,000-700,000 mark, perhaps partly due to confirmation that the facelifted 911 GT3 will be available with a six-speed manual ‘box. Given the limited-run of the 911 R however, it is more than probable that in the coming years, prices will begin creeping up once again so now could be the last chance to purchase one with any hope of making a profit down the road.
One rather stunning 911 R is currently up for sale courtesy of Exotic Euro Cars in Woodland Hills, California with a price tag of $699,000. While that is truly insane for a 911, we wouldn’t be surprised if this 911 R got snapped up quite quickly by an eager enthusiast or collector.
Beyond being a great motoring investment, the model itself has already been heralded as one of the greatest sports cars of recent times. In a world where cars are becoming more muted and over-run by electronics, the 911 R takes things back to a simpler time with limited sound-deadening, a screaming naturally-aspirated six-cylinder and a slick manual transmission.
