Just a couple of days ago, Chinese electric car startup WM Motors made headlines by previewing its future range of affordable EVs. As it turns out, the renderings it released of its SUV are nothing more than a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Concept S dressed up in a fancy suit.
Electrek broke the news after discovering that the shots of the WM Motor SUV are in fact press pictures from the launch of the latest Mitsubishi Outlander. All the company’s chief designer has done is modify the body of the Outlander and photoshopped out a small cloud in the sky.
From the rear, the similarities between the two are eerily similar. For starters, the faux diffuser of the Outlander hasn’t even been changed for WM Motors model. Additionally, the same wheels and tires of the Outlander are used in the Chinese firm’s renderings. What’s more, the wing mirrors are the same as are the roof rails. Differences include the new rear bumper, taillights and sportier
From the front, the renderings of the SUV again feature the wheels and wing mirrors of the Outlander but to WM’s credit, the entire front fascia has been modified.
It remains to be seen if the other models previewed by the automaker are simply photoshopped versions of different cars but they very well could be.
Update: In a statement, WM Motor says these images aren’t real. Read more here.
