Subaru’s new WRX STI Type RA NBR Special will tackle the Goodwood Hill Climb during this year’s Festival of Speed, opening June 29th.
For those who don’t know, Type “RA” stands for “Record Attempt”, and it’s something that has already been applied to past Subaru models – originally, a competition version of the Subaru Legacy which broke the FIA World Speed Endurance Record back in 1989.
As for the WRX STI Type RA NBR Special, it will also head down to the Nurburgring to attempt a speed record, following its runs up the Goodwood Hill Climb in the Time Attack Open class, with stunt driver Mark Higgins behind the wheel.
Higgins is known for driving a WRX STI on the St Moritz’s Olympic Bobsled run, and for setting a lap record at the Isle of Mann TT back in 2016.
Helping the Type RA stand out compared to regular WRX STI models, are its carbon fiber roof panel, carbon fiber rear wing, lightweight BBS 19″ alloys and all-round weight shedding.
It’s also packing an updated turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four unit, said to be pushing an estimated 310 horses thanks to a new cold air intake, performance exhaust and re-tuned ECU, among other things.
