Even though back in its time, the first-generation Opel Zafira OPC was the fastest minivan on sale in Europe, it was certainly never meant to be tossed around a racetrack.

Launched at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show, the Zafira OPC was powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, putting down 192 PS (141 kW).

For an MPV, those were pretty good numbers, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.2 seconds with the help of a five-speed manual transmission, while reaching a maximum speed of 220 km/h (137 mph).

Impressive for a school run, not so much for lapping the Nurburgring. Speaking of which, this here looks like another case of liftoff oversteer. As soon as that Zafira skidded onto the grass, it was pretty much over as the driver failed to keep the family hauler away from the barrier.

As soon as the minivan came to a halt, the driver had the presence of mind to get off the track as quickly as possible – though thankfully all other cars managed to slow down with plenty of time to spare.

So while this was pretty much a failed attempt at tackling the Nurburgring, minivans have had some success on the famed circuit, with a Revo-tuned VW T5 lapping the track in just 9 minutes and 57.36 seconds a few years back.
