Honda was forced to halt production at their Sayama plant near Tokyo for a whole day after finding the WannaCry ransomware virus inside the factory’s computer network.

According to Autonews, the Japanese automaker found out on Sunday that the virus had managed to affect networks across Japan, North America, Europe, China and other regions, in spite of efforts to secure those systems back in May, following the initial outbreak.

The Sayama plant produces models such as the Accord sedan, Odyssey and Step Wagon, and has a daily output of roughly 1,000 vehicles. On Monday though, everything came to a stop.

Fortunately, regular operations were resumed on Tuesday, following an incident closely resembling what happened to Renault and Nissan last month when the “Alliance” was forced to stop production at plants in Japan, Great Britain, France, Romania and India.

While the spread of the WannaCry virus (locking out over 200,000 computers in more than 150 countries) has slowed since last month, security experts still advise that new versions might spring up.
