Canada recently celebrated its 150th anniversary but one man got into the celebratory spirit a too little early.
Constable Karen Whitby, from the Sunshine Coast Royal Canadian Mounted Police, says a 25-year old man went on a wild joyride at the BC Ferries complex at approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 24th.
According to the RMCP, Chase Campbell smashed through several locked security gates with a Chevrolet Blazer and speed towards the closed ferry terminal. Campbell then drove through more gates and barriers as he tried to reach the upper loading deck. This is where things take an insane turn as the police say the Blazer then “attempted to board the ferry by way of launching itself off the raised ramp towards the upper car deck of the Queen of Surrey which was docked.”
As The Drive points out, this echoes a mission from Grand Theft Auto where players are tasked with landing a car on a boat. Unfortunately, in the real world, cars don’t magically land on boats and the Blazer came to a rest against the ship’s upper car deck.
Campbell was miraculously uninjured and managed to flee from the vehicle. He then attempted to steal two vehicles from the parking lot before being apprehended by police.
Campbell is charged with 13 different offensives including impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault of a police officer, mischief over $5000, and driving while prohibited.
