When Lamborghini announced that it had broken the Nurburgring production car lap record by nearly five seconds with the new Huracan Performante, a lot of people started questioning the validity of the claim.
Mainly because most people’s minds couldn’t get past the numbers; after all how can the Performante beat the hybrid Porsche 918 that boasts almost 900 hp with just 631hp on tap?
The answer lies to its revolutionary active aero, a patented system called ALA. The core idea is pretty simple and involves some hollow components that let the air flow through them and some flaps that open or close, depending on the conditions.
With this sort of aero backed by a lighter body, more power, stickier tires and beefed-up suspension and brakes, the Huracan Performante manages to perform in a manner known only from the latest crop of hybrid hypercars, and that’s the highest of praises for a car like this.
