Owning a Bentley is a status symbol – a way to project an image of wealth and success. So what’s a Bentley driver to do when he (or she) can’t be driving their Bentley? Wear one on the wrist, of course.
Fortunately the automaker has a longstanding partnership with the timekeepers at Breitling, who craft wristwatches to go with the British manufacturer’s high-end automobiles. And they’ve just released another.
Designed to accompany the new Continental just unveiled in Frankfurt, the Breitling for Bentley GT Dark Sapphire Edition is powered by the COSC-certified Breitling B06 calibre, 47-jewel chronograph movement, with 70-hour power reserve and timing function capable of measuring down to an eighth of a second.
It’s encased in a special proprietary alloy called Breitlight that’s been rendered in black with a subtle blue shimmer inspired by the Dark Sapphire paint available on the Continental GT. And it’s affixed to the wrist with a rubber strap whose design – like the dial’s – emulates the quilted diamond stitching of the Conti’s interior, secured by a push-button folding clasp.
Breitling will only make 500 examples of this particular model, which amounts to less than half the Continentals that Bentley sells in the US alone each year. So some owners are going to have to do without the status symbol on their wrist to complement the one in their driveway, or pick one of the other timepieces in the Breitling for Bentley series.
