Following Volvo’s example, Jaguar Land Rover announced in its inaugural Tech Fest event that from 2020 on, all new JLR models will be electrified.
“Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice. We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE, goes on sale next year”, said Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO.
The announcement was combined with the reveal of the Jaguar E-Type Zero, a classic 1968 Series 1.5 Roadster retrofitted with a state-of-the-art electric powertrain by Jaguar Classic.
JLR also revealed the Jaguar Future-Type, a fully autonomous virtual concept on how cars will look like from 2040 onwards. At the heart of the futuristic concept is the Sayer, JLR’s intelligent steering wheel named after Malcolm Sayer, the designer of the iconic E-Type.
JLR is committed to offer a range of plug-in hybrids, mild hybrids and a number of all electric vehicles, including the upcoming Jaguar I-Pace, the company’s first purely electric SUV which is slated for a market launch next year.
