Following a single teaser image, Mercedes has released a short video that reveals a bit more about the upcoming electric Concept EQ A.

Mercedes will have one of the busiest stands on the Frankfurt Motor Show, with cars like the AMG Project One expected to steal the show but we reckon the Concept EQ A will also create its own buzz.

It will preview the entry-level electric model under the EQ brand, a future rival of the BMW i3 and perhaps even the Tesla Model 3. The video suggests a hatchback bodystyle, with the overall shape looking similar to an A-Class but the concept will feature its own, unique design details such as the black panel front grille and full-length LED taillights.

The first model to reach production under the EQ brand will be the EQ C SUV which is scheduled for market launch in 2020. The EQ A will shortly follow, with Mercedes planning to launch 10 new electric vehicles before 2025.

The new EQ A will be based on the dedicated MEA electric car platform and will be powered by a single electric motor for cost reasons, with the potential of adding a second electric motor later on. Mercedes targets a price tag under 40,000 euros in Europe ($47,000 in current exchange rates).

Everything will be revealed on September 14 at the company’s Frankfurt Motor Show stand.
