The EPA has just revealed that the Tesla Model 3 Long Range version returns 126 MPGe, putting it ahead of its all-electric competitors but slightly behind the industry’s most efficient hybrids.
Electrek managed to get its hands on a window sticker of the Model 3 Long Range to confirm the MPGe rating. In city driving, it sits at 131 MPGe while highway driving returns 120 MPGe, leading to the aforementioned average of 126 MPGe.
To put that into perspective, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric returns 136 MPGe, the Toyota Prius Prime 133 MPGe and the Chevrolet Bolt 119 MPGe. The Model 3’s rating is comfortably ahead of the 104 MPGe of the Model S 60D, 75D and 90D.
MPGe figures are calculated be the EPA by using a set amount of electric energy that’s equal to the energy of a single gallon of gasoline. This equates to approximately 33.7 kilowatt-hours. A vehicle’s MPGe rating is then calculated about how far the car can travel on 33.7 kilowatt-hours of energy.
