While the latest-generation BMW Z4 has been developed alongside the new Toyota Supra, the German brand is adamant that the Z4 will be unique to the Supra.

During a recent interview with Car Advice, BMW Group Australia chief executive Marc Werner said both the design and driving characteristics of the Z4 will be vastly different to Toyota’s long-awaited sports car.

“As far as the design is concerned, it will be absolutely unique. Not only in terms of design but how they drive and how they handle. It will be absolutely a unique BMW product, as you would expect,” Werner said.

BMW revealed the new Z4 in concept guise a couple of months ago and it left many flabbergasted by its beauty. Thankfully, recent spy shots show that many of the key design elements of the concept will make their way onto the production car, including similar headlights and taillights.

Underpinning the 2019 Z4 will be the same platform as the Toyota Supra. Engines on offer for the Z4 will include a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 194 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque and a six-cylinder B58 for the range-topping Z4 M40i. Further down the road, BMW is expected to revive the Z4 M badge.
