Polestar’s glamorous 1 sports coupe will initially only be available through a subscription service but the company says that for the right price, consumers will be able to buy an example outright.

In a press statement shared to the media and reported by Autoblog, company spokesman Johan Meissner said:

“In simple terms, all Polestar cars will be offered on a comprehensive subscription basis that will cover depreciation, insurance and routine maintenance. If you wish to understand the cost of a Polestar 1, purely for competitor comparative reasons, the indicative target price would be in the region of 130-150,000 Euros. If a customer wanted to purchase the car outright, this is something that we would assess nearer the time.”

When the Polestar 1 launches, it will only be available for order through the brand’s website and on a two- or three-year subscription basis. That subscription will include everything from maintenance to insurance. Pricing is still being determined.

Underpinning the 2+2 seat Gran Tourer is Volvo’s Scalable Platform Architecture while power is provided by two electric motors and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder creating a combined 600 hp and 737 lb-ft (1000 Nm) of torque.
