The all-new Mercedes-AMG E63 has arrived looking for the crown of the best super saloon but first it needs to have a chat with the Cadillac CTS-V.
The Cadillac CTS-V is simply one of the best super saloons you can buy, if you live on the correct side of the Atlantic. Offering 640hp from its supercharged V8, this Caddy is still the horsepower champion in its class but this isn’t another American straight-line hero.
Instead, Cadillac’s super saloon grips and goes on the twisty stuff, revealing a rare talent for a car of this size.
The latest Mercedes AMG E63 on the other hand offers 604hp from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that are channelled to a trick all-wheel drive system that shuffles torque between axles all the time to make sure that all the horses will reach the tarmac.
AMG also added the now-famous Drift mode, which disengages the front axle completely, letting the driver to destroy the rear tires within minutes. The drawback of course to all this technology is weight, as the new E63 ended up being considerably heavier than the older Cadillac.
