Mazda USA has announced the 2021 CX-9 flagship SUV is arriving at dealerships later this month with infotainment and upholstery upgrades, as well as a new Carbon Edition model.

Chief among the updates is a new standard 10.25-inch center display hooked to the latest-generation Mazda Connect infotainment system. The new interface comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and adds Mazda Connected Services capabilities.

Those include a three-year trial to access the ability to monitor and control the state of the CX-9 remotely using the MyMazda app and in-car Wi-Fi hotspot with three-months or 2GB trial. The three-row SUV also gains new seat patterning for the 2021 model year, while the new Carbon Edition model brings bolder styling inside and out.

2021 Mazda CX-9

The base 2021 Mazda CX-9 Sport has a starting MSRP of $33,960, excluding the $1,100 destination and handling charge. This represents an increase of just $70 over the equivalent 2020 CX-9. Based on the CX-9 Touring with Touring Premium Package, the 2021 CX-9 Carbon Edition starts from $41,080. It brings exclusive styling with Polymetal Gray exterior paint, gloss black door mirrors and new designs for the gloss black front grille and 20-inch Black Metallic alloy wheels.

Inside, the model features red leather seats and black interior trimming on the dash, door panels and handle bezels. It comes standard with second-row captain’s chairs with armrest and center pass through, hands-free power liftgate, ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, heated steering wheel, seven-inch TFT reconfigurable digital gauge display, and much more.

2021 Mazda CX-9 Carbon Edition

Regardless of the trim level, the 2021 CX-9 features a Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine delivering 250 HP and 320 lb-ft (433 Nm) of torque on premium (93 octane) gasoline. On regular (87 octane) gasoline, the ratings drop to 227 HP and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque.

A six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission with G-Vectoring Control Plus comes standard, while the predictive i-Activ AWD system with off-road traction assist is standard in CX-9 Signature and available on all other trim levels.

The i-Activsense safety suite comes standard and includes Mazda Radar Cruise Control with stop and go function, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
