Porsche began doing Slantnose, or ‘Flachbau’, conversions for their 930 sports car back in 1981, replacing the vehicle’s typical front end with a more aerodynamic nose featuring pop-up headlights.

The look was inspired by the 935 Group 5 racer and, according to some, it made the old 911 stand out even among its peers. Others, however, weren’t as thrilled with the conversion, something the previous owner of this car completely ignored.

According to the Bring a Trailer ad, this 930 Turbo received its new face back in 1987 at Porschraft in Atlanta, Georgia, for a price of just over $11,000. That’s when it also got an upgraded turbocharger for the 3.3-liter flat-six unit, a new exhaust and a bunch of other mechanical mods.

Whichever way you put it, there’s no denying the fact that this car really does look special. In fact, it is thought that fewer than 600 Slantnose Turbos were made for the USA, which basically comes down to exactly 12 cars per U.S. state, if you were to look at it that way.

Aside from its pointy front end, this 1979 model also comes with 15-inch BBS wheels, Dunlop SP Sport tires, right-side power mirror and an electric sunroof. There are a few paint chips here and there, but otherwise the body seems to be in good condition.

Inside this 930 Turbo you’ll find black leather sports seats, an aftermarket 3-spoke steering wheel, a period-specific Alpine cassette player, upgraded air conditioning system and a shifter that operates the 4-speed manual transmission.

Powering the car is a 3.3-liter turbocharged flat-six, which apparently has exactly 38,911 miles (62,621 km) on the clock. The current seller is the car’s fourth overall owner and as you can see by the mileage, none of them were shy about getting it out on the road.

Right now, the highest bid is $20k, but we suspect it’ll go up in the five days remaining until the auction ends. So, what say you: is a classic 911-that’s-not-looking-like-a-911 worth buying?
