People looking at something like the Porsche Panamera for their next purchase are now confronted with a new dilemma thanks to Mercedes launching the new AMG GT 4-door Coupe, in turn making this specific sub-segment a lot more competitive.
Looks aside, which you’ll either love, hate or go with something in-between, the AMG GT 4-door seems to excel at pretty much everything, according to Carwow. Or at least everything that actually matters in a car like this.
For starters, the interior is of extremely high quality and surprisingly spacious, even for rear seat passengers, as demonstrated by Mat Watson over the course of this review. Also, the fact that this is actually a hatchback aids practicality, despite the large load lip.
As for what it’s actually like to drive, it would seem that Mercedes-AMG have created yet another car that offers both brutal acceleration as well as excellent road hugging manners and a great steering feel, especially once you’re done fiddling with the setup.
The main “culprit” for you having fun behind the wheel is the car’s 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine, pushing out 639 PS (630 HP) and 900 Nm (663 lb-ft) of torque through an all-wheel drive system. On paper, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S should be capable of hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) in as little as 3.2 seconds, before maxing out at 315 km/h (195 mph).
Unfortunately, it proved slower over a standing 1/4 mile than its E63 S sibling.
