Cadillac’s Blackwing Twin-Turbo V8 Comes To $97,000 CT6 Platinum

The thumping Blackwing twin-turbo V8 of the Cadillac CT6-V will soon find its way into the Platinum variant, too.

Cadillac introduced the Blackwing, which delivers 550 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, with the CT6-V. Less than a day after going on sale, the limited-edition CT6-V was sold out. Clearly, GM’s luxury brand was on to a winner with this new engine.

We already know that Cadillac will detune the V8 to approximately 500 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) for use in the CT6 Platinum 4.2, based on data from order guides retrieved Cars Direct.

Curiously, the V8-powered CT6 Platinum will be priced from $96,760, including destination fees. That makes it roughly $8,000 pricier than the more powerful, but discontinued, CT6-V, yet it undercuts the 2019 BMW 750i xDrive which starts at $100,945.

Power output is not the only thing that will distinguish the CT6 Platinum 4.2 from the CT6-V. As the name of the latter model implies, it is focused on performance and couples the 550 hp V8 with track-oriented tuning, magnetic ride control system, and rear-wheel steering. In contrast, the CT6 Platinum has a greater focus on luxury and will come standard with 20-way adjustable semi-aniline leather seats, 19-inch alloy wheels, magnetic ride control, and the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.

Cadillac will sell the CT6 Platinum 4.2 during the 2019 model year, but hasn’t revealed yet if it will sit on top of its luxury sedan’s range or, like the CT6-V, be a limited run.
