The BMW M4 GT4 will be added to popular sim racing platform iRacing this month.

When the M4 GT4 becomes available, it will join the M8 GTE. It has taken the German car manufacturer roughly six months to ensure the real-life race car is mimicked perfectly in iRacing.

Things started out with the team from iRacing using advanced 3D technology to scan a BMW M4 GT4 used by Turner Motorsport. BMW then provided game developers with CAD data for all of the race car’s parts. This is the same data that BMW sends to suppliers that produce various parts for the car. In addition to this, BMW sent iRacing a large data package containing all the information on the car’s driving dynamics, including damper curves, engine performance curves, axle kinematics, weight distribution, aerodynamics values, and more.

“The more real vehicle data we receive, the closer we get to the real driving dynamics. In the case of our BMW M4 GT4 the initial feedback from people who have driven the real car is very positive,” says senior vehicle dynamics engineer at iRacing, Steve Reiss.

Once the crew behind iRacing finished work on the M4 GT4, BMW Motorsport inspected the car, just as it would in real life, ensuring the appearance, handling and key details such as the interior are exactly the same as the real car.

The BMW M4 GT4 will make its virtual racing debut at the H&R 3-hour race in the Digital Nurburgring Endurance Series on June 13th.
